It’s truly fascinating to watch Moroccan artisans painting glazed tiles. The men and women dedicate themselves to this beautiful task with concentration and passion. Visualizing the final result at this stage requires a good deal of imagination: the colors only achieve their brilliant brilliance after the tiles have been fired a second time. The hand-painted tiles showcase the full spectrum of oriental ornamentation: from interlaced bands to blossoms and buds, stars and snails, all the way to abstract geometric shapes. Up to five colors radiate against the always light, usually white, background. Each color has a symbolic meaning in Islam: white for purity, ochre/yellow for eternity, blue for protection against the evil eye, and so on.
