  • Densely branched dwarf spruce with a natural conical shape, evergreen needles and fresh light green new growth, slow growing and dimensionally stable.
  • Slender, conical growth habit, very slow growth, eventually reaching approximately 2-3 m in height and 1-1.5 m in width, tolerates pruning well, suitable for topiary.
  • Prefers sunny to partially shaded location, humus-rich, well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Avoid waterlogging. Protection from winter sun is recommended.
  • Versatile use as a solitary plant in the front garden, rock garden, for entrances, flower beds and in containers on the terrace or balcony; structurally strong all year round.
  • Care: Water evenly, fertilize moderately in spring, mulch during dry periods, mist needles, occasional pruning to shape.
Picea glauca ‘Conica’, the dwarf Alberta spruce or white spruce ‘Conica’, is a compact, evergreen conifer with a perfectly uniform, densely conical shape. The fresh new growth in spring is bright green and develops into finely textured, medium-green needles that retain their color throughout the year. As a slow-growing dwarf spruce, this conifer remains manageable for a long time and develops a harmonious silhouette over time, requiring no pruning; only occasional removal of dry shoots is necessary. Inconspicuous cone buds replace flowers and emphasize the natural character of this ornamental shrub. In the garden, Picea glauca ‘Conica’ makes a striking specimen plant in the front garden, rock garden, or heath garden. It also provides structure when planted in groups and can be used as a low, sturdy hedge. Thanks to its compact growth habit, it is ideally suited as a container plant for patios, balconies, or entrance areas, where it maintains a neat and elegant presence year-round. A sunny to partially shaded location with well-drained, humus-rich, slightly acidic soil is ideal; waterlogging should be avoided, while consistent moisture is important in containers. Mulching keeps the root area cool and reduces evaporation; additional watering is advisable during extended dry periods. A sheltered spot, protected from extreme midday heat and wind damage, prevents needle loss. The robust, winter-hardy dwarf Alberta spruce is tolerant of urban environments, easy to care for, and, as an attractive conifer, provides year-round structure, rhythm, and color in beds and containers.
