Information on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)

The following information is intended for private households that use electrical and/or electronic devices. Please observe these important instructions for the environmentally sound disposal of old devices and for your own safety.

1. Information on the disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment and the meaning of the symbol according to Annex 3 of the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG).

Owners of old electrical and electronic equipment must dispose of it separately from unsorted municipal waste. Waste electrical and electronic equipment must therefore not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste and, in particular, does not belong in household waste. Instead, this waste equipment must be collected separately and disposed of via local collection and return systems.

Owners of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) must also remove any waste batteries and accumulators that are not enclosed within the WEEE, as well as lamps that can be removed from the WEEE without damage, before handing it over to a collection point. The latter does not apply if the WEEE is separated from other WEEE by public waste management authorities as part of the opt-in process under Section 14, Paragraph 4, Sentence 4 or Paragraph 5, Sentences 2 and 3 of the German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG), in order to prepare it for reuse.

Owners of old devices can return them to the collection or return facilities provided by public waste management authorities to ensure proper disposal. The following information is for customers who use rechargeable or non-rechargeable batteries or accumulators (batteries) supplied by us, or products that contain or are supplied with batteries. Please observe these important instructions for the environmentally sound disposal of used batteries and for your own safety and health.

1. Information on the disposal or return of batteries

Used batteries contain valuable raw materials that can be recycled. Separate collection of used batteries ensures proper recycling and prevents negative impacts on the environment and human health.

Owners of used batteries must therefore dispose of them separately from unsorted municipal waste. Used batteries must not be disposed of as unsorted municipal waste and, in particular, do not belong in household waste. End users of batteries are legally obligated to return used batteries.

You can dispose of used batteries at a suitable collection or take-back point, which is part of the collection or take-back systems established by public waste management authorities and/or battery manufacturers or retailers. Alternatively, you can return batteries to us free of charge.

Rechargeable batteries must be returned to us or taken to a collection point only when fully discharged. To prevent short circuits in partially discharged batteries, the terminals should be covered with suitable insulating tape.

2. Notes on the meaning of the symbol according to § 17 para. 1 and the signs according to § 17 para. 3 BattG

The symbol in the annex to Section 17 of the German Battery Act (BattG) helps owners identify batteries that, at the end of their service life, must be collected separately from unsorted municipal waste and returned or disposed of. The symbol for the separate collection of batteries is a crossed-out wheeled waste bin and is designed as follows:

If batteries contain mercury, cadmium or lead, you will find the respective chemical symbol (Hg, Cd or Pb) below the waste bin symbol.
