Peperomia, also known as ornamental pepper or dwarf pepper, is a genus of plants in the pepper family (Piperaceae). The approximately 1500 to 1700 Peperomia species are widespread in almost all tropical regions. This plant comes in a wide variety of leaf colors: pure green, white-green, yellow-green, reddish-brown, pure red, or silver-striped. Leaf structures and growth habits are also diverse, ranging from thin to fleshy and thick, smooth or wrinkled, and from upright to creeping to trailing. The dwarf pepper ‘Smit Rosso’ has fleshy, pointed leaves that are green on the upper surface and red on the underside. Due to its slightly upward-curving growth habit, the reddish underside of the leaves is also visible.
